John has a background of playing in the pit and on the stage for West End shows (see Biog). In more recent times he has acted as musical director for a number of theatrical productions, including amateur productions of Charlie Girl, Cabaret, and a Soho pantomime written by Graeme Garden.
Over the last few years he has enjoyed playing the piano for shows given by the Manor & Philbeach Singers. (He particularly enjoyed playing in the band for their 2009 production of Follies by Stephen Sondheim, as he is a great Sondheim fan!) Lambeth North Music Hall used him as their accompanist for their 2015 season. He periodically accompanies singers such as Prudence Drage, Robert Lowe, Maggie Robson and Jill Goldman (see YouTube of John accompanying her in a great song which she wrote with Bernie Holland) in performances in clubs, synagogues, private parties and elsewhere.
He has also had some pleasant engagements accompanying choirs giving concerts – in particular Take Note Chamber Choir, based in Lambeth, has used him for concerts in the City of London and elsewhere.
John is always happy to hear from, and meet up with, new singers (particularly of show music or jazz) with a view to possible work together.
